4 Benefits Of Switching To LED Lighting In Your Home

led lighting

In recent years, switching to LED lighting has been a popular option for home and business owners alike. Most homeowners have heard that utilizing LED lighting in their home can be a good thing, but there are many that don’t understand exactly what the benefits are to making the switch from more traditional lighting sources. To help highlight some of the more significant benefits that the installation of new LED lighting can have for your home, our San Fransisco Electricians here at Brookline Electric have taken the time to put together this short list. It is our hope that the information we have provided you with here will show you the many ways that your home can benefit from the installation of new LED lighting.

Cost Savings

LED lighting offers a number of great benefits, but one of the biggest is without a doubt the amount of cost savings they can provide. While LED bulbs are usually a bit more expensive than their incandescent counterparts, due to the lower amount of energy it actually takes to run the LED bulbs, you can actually wind up saving yourself a great deal of money over the life of the bulb. The savings you can receive from making the switch, however, aren’t set in stone, and you actually stand to save more money from the LED bulbs the more lights you have running and the longer you have to run them.

Longer-Lasting

While most incandescent bulbs have a lifespan of about 1,200 hours, your average LED bulb is going to have a lifespan of somewhere around 50,000 hours. This makes LED bulbs a far more efficient solution, especially in areas of the home where the lights are always on or need to be in use frequently. While it is fairly easy to change out a light bulb, the added cost of having to buy additional incandescent bulbs where you would only need a single LED bulb can quickly add up. While LED lighting does come with more of an upfront cost than its alternative, that cost is quickly outweighed when you take into account that you would need nearly 42 traditional bulbs to give you the life of one LED bulb.

Safety

One of the main reasons that LED bulbs are able to operate so efficiently is because they produce an incredibly low amount of heat. These bulbs remain cool to the touch at all times because, unlike incandescent bulbs, they don’t produce any heat in the form of infrared radiation. When you compare that to traditional bulbs, which release between 80 and 90 percent of their energy as heat, you can see that LED lighting is not only a more economical choice, but also a safer one as well. It is extremely unlikely for LED bulbs to ever overheat, reducing the risk of fire or other harm.

Energy Efficient

While we have touched on this above, the energy efficiency of LED lighting compared to more traditional methods can’t be touched on enough. LED lighting uses about 75 percent less energy than incandescent bulbs, and can last up to 25 times longer. This would mean that, on average, you would need nearly 42 incandescent bulbs to do the same job that 1 LED bulb could do. As you can see, making the switch to LED lighting is more beneficial than more traditional lighting in terms of both the overall cost of the materials, and the continued cost of keeping them running.
