Fire Protection Systems with Addressable Pull Stations

Modern Addressable Fire Alarm System Features

Modern fail safe fire Alarm Systems use digital communications lines. The control box reports the location of any activated pull station on a LED mounded on a panel in a central location in the building. It also telephones in to a central monitoring station like PAFA which is Pacific Auxiliary Fire Alarm. The on duty monitor has a list of phone numbers for the manager and other persons living at the location of the fire alarm system.  He will call them one by one until he finds some one who can go see if the alarm is real or false. If it is a false alarm he will call off he fire engines. There are two dedicated phone lines to make sure any fire will be full reported in real time.  There will be a record of the location of any false alarms.

Response time saved translates in to saved property and saved lives. In the old days the a fireman friend of mine said: "I just look to see which window the smoke is coming from."  Of course we want to get there while it is only smoke and not yet flames

It is good to have separate but inter-tied smoke detectors in each bedroom of each unit. These are separate from the addressable system.  If somebody were smoking and they set off the smoke alarms they probably can handle the problem them selves.  If not, the next step is to go outside the front door and trip the pull station and the fire department will be noted.

it is enough to have to go looking through every bedroom. You don't want to have to go looking through every apartment to see which one is the source of the alarm.

We are doing smoke alarms and fire alarms which are two different systems, in a long horizontal

apartment complex of 28 units with 7 front gates. There are 2 floors over garages.

I like the design which follows.  If there's a small fire in one of the 28 units the occupants that unit

have a chance to take care of the problem before it wakes up the whole building.  If the problem gets

out of hand they simply step out either on the fire escape or outside the front door and go to the

bottom of the stairs and pull the pull-station handle down (in the old days it was a break glass to alarm)

and then a supervised fire alarm system will set off horns in every bedroom and outside every bedroom

room in the whole place.  So it operates as a two stage system.  Good.
